Guided trip to the Bordalsgjelet gorge

A short, easy hike to one of Voss' wonders

Through the heart of Voss and along the lake Vangsvatnet

Are you pressed on time – but would still like to experience a memorable winter excursion near Voss? Then this trip is for you! Our guided hike to the spectacular river gorge called Bordalsgjelet takes around 3 hours, and can be booked every day during the winter season.

Trip outline.

Meet your guide at our office above Tre Brør Café, near the town square of Voss. There, we have some extra warm clothes we can lend you if necessary. Voss is a cold place in winter, especially when the wind is blowing across the lake.

Our trip takes you through the town centre of Voss, passes the lake called Vangsvatnet and right to where the river coming out of Bordalen valley has carved out an impressively deep gorge. The terraced walkways with fenced-in viewpoints allow us to get a closer look at the potholes and the masses of ice that usually drape the sides of the gorge during winter. Quite breathtaking!

Our experienced guide makes sure your trip will become a learning experience for you. During the duration of the trip, you’ll learn about topics such as geology, cultural history and what it’s like to live here in Voss.

This is an easy trip, suitable for most ages and fitness levels. We will maintain a slow pace, keep together and take several breaks to get to know each other and our surroundings. You should still be dressed and prepared for cold winds, icy conditons, and even rain or snow. We will equip you with trekking poles and hiking crampons if the conditions are icy. The trip ends back at the starting point.
